Naomi

Naomi is looking forward to when the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) becomes available in the Illawarra Shoalhaven.

Naomi lives in the Shoalhaven with her husband, Phil, and her identical twin boys, Nathan (Buddy) and Luke, who are 17. The twins were diagnosed with severe autism at the age of three.

Naomi is hoping the NDIS will mean a positive future not only for the boys, but also for herself and Phil.

Naomi and Phil take the boys to the beach or river every afternoon. As a family, they also enjoy going for drives, being outdoors and having hot chips on the beach.

Naomi used to be a full-time worker, but unfortunately had to give up work to spend more time with the twins. Her main NDIS goal is to be a mother, rather than a carer, and that the boys will be supported after they finish school to get life skills and eventually their own jobs.

“I can now see a future for my boys. We will become Mum and Dad, not their carers, and they will be active in the community living their lives, not just existing.’’
