Quality and safeguards guidance tool for NDIS providers in NSW

Before you begin, it is important to know that all entities wishing to register as providers under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) must agree to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) Terms of Business.

All providers who want to register to provide supports under the NDIS must take the following steps:
  1. Complete the PRODA authentication process and obtain a myplace account
  2. Submit an intent to register
  3. Read and sign the Declaration of suitability
  4. Provide supporting evidence and documentation.

There are some supports that require specific industry or professional qualifications as well as other NDIS registration requirements such as:

Do you receive funding though the NSW or Commonwealth Government to provide disability services?

You currently provide disability services funded by the NSW government

Delivering the same supports under the NDIS?

  • If you would like to provide the same supports under the NDIS, you need to continue to comply with the terms and conditions of your funding agreement with the NSW Government including policy and legislation.
  • You must achieve third party verification by 30 June 2018 in accordance with your funding agreement.

Delivering additional supports under the NDIS?

  • If you would like to increase your services and register to deliver other supports, you must ensure that these additional groups of services are part of your registration with the NDIA. You must also ensure that any additional services you deliver during transition are also part of your quality reporting to the NSW government prior to 30 June 2018.
You currently provide disability services funded by the Commonwealth government
The type of quality and safeguarding requirements you must meet are dependent on the type of supports you would like to deliver under the NDIS.

Registering as an Australian Disability Enterprise

If you want to register as an Australian Disability Enterprise you will need to:

  • Register as a service provider with the NDIA
  • Demonstrate compliance as a provider through the National Disability Service Standards.

You have selected NDIS Support Group

For supports in this group you are not required to provide Third Party Verification.

You will be required however to demonstrate good practice in areas including:

  • Systems and information that can measure and demonstrate outcomes and impact for NDIS participants
  • A commitment to continuous quality improvement
  • Demonstrate quality service to all people accessing supports you provide

You have selected Specialist Disability Support Group

If you want to provide Specialist Disability Supports, you need to achieve third party verification against one or all of the following:

  • NSW Disability Services Standards
  • National Standards
  • Attendant Car Industry Standards
  • Home Care Standards
  • Victorian Department of Human Services standards or
  • Queensland Human Services Quality Framework.

You do not currently receive funded services from the NSW or Commonwealth governments and you would like to register as a NDIS provider.
