Ben is a 20 year-old with an intellectual disability and a keen desire to contribute to his local community. He’s been loving the opportunity to do work experience at his local butcher in Albury and is now looking forward to entering the workforce full-time.
Before the NDIS came to his area, Ben began his goal planning with Job Centre Australia. In addition to working one day a week at the butcher, Ben has completed his Certificate III in Carpentry, Certificate II in Retail and volunteered in his local community. Greg from Peters and Son’s Butchery said, “Ben is absolutely awesome to work with, a really good guy, he has a great attitude towards work and learns very quickly. I showed (him) how to make the kebabs once and now he does them perfectly each time.”
Ben says he’s excited for what the future holds, and is looking forward to the NDIS helping him get there. The NDIS means he’ll have greater employment support to land his perfect job. “I’ve been working hard to build the skills I need to enter the workforce. Now, I feel confident and ready to start my full-time career.” Ben’s not limited in his job search, “A job in carpentry, horticulture or the health and fitness industry will be amazing.” He added, “I have many passions and skills to offer, so I’m really looking forward to the NDIS helping me get out there.”
Thanks to the NDIS, Ben’s future is looking even brighter.
